Why Underpricing Your Retreat is Hurting Your Business (and How to Fix It) - Retreat Coaching | Retreat Training | Retreat Programs | Wanderlust Entrepreneur | Sheri Rosenthal

If there’s one thing I see over and over again in the retreat industry, it’s this: retreat leaders underpricing their retreats out of fear that no one will sign up.

It’s a classic case of self-doubt masquerading as strategy.😭

Instead of crafting an experience brimming with value and pricing it accordingly, many retreat leaders slash their prices, hoping that a bargain will entice more participants.

But here’s the hard truth—discounting your worth doesn’t just hurt your bottom line, it undermines your credibility and the transformation you’re offering. And I mean this with all my heart.

The Underpricing Trap

Many retreat leaders start with the belief that price is the biggest deciding factor for potential attendees.

And while affordability matters, it’s NOT what ultimately sells a retreat.

People invest in experiences that they perceive as valuable, transformative, and aligned with their desires.

By setting your price too low, you’re inadvertently sending the message that your retreat isn’t as valuable as it actually is.

Think about it—have you ever hesitated to buy something because it seemed too cheap? I have. Many times!

If a high-end yoga retreat costs the same as a budget hotel stay, potential attendees might wonder…

What’s wrong with this retreat?

Why’s it so cheap?

💯Pricing affects perception, and perception affects sales.

Creating Value, Not Just Cutting Costs

Instead of focusing on how low you can price your retreat, shift your attention to creating undeniable value.

Here’s how:

  • Design a Deeply Transformational Experience – Your retreat isn’t just a getaway; it’s a life-changing experience. Highlight the transformation your participants will go through, whether it’s deeper self-discovery, business breakthroughs, or personal healing.
  • Showcase the Unique Elements – What makes your retreat different? Is it an exclusive location, expert facilitators, personalized support, or luxury accommodations? Emphasize the unique aspects that set your retreat apart.

  • Articulate the Benefits Clearly – Potential attendees need to see the tangible and intangible benefits of attending. What will they walk away with? More clarity? A renewed sense of purpose? Business strategies? Personal healing? Spell it out.
  • Use Social Proof – Testimonials, past participant stories, and case studies help demonstrate the impact of your retreats. People trust social proof, and it helps them see the true value of what you offer.
  • Own Your Expertise – You’ve poured your heart, energy, and expertise into crafting a meaningful retreat. If you don’t believe in the value of your offering, neither will your potential attendees. Price confidently and stand behind it.

Pricing with Confidence

Pricing your retreat correctly isn’t about overcharging—it’s about accurately reflecting the value of the experience you’ve created.

A premium retreat price doesn’t just cover expenses; it honors your time, expertise, and the deep transformation you facilitate for your clients.

💸And remember: the right people will pay for the right experience.

Those who only want a cheap deal aren’t your ideal attendees anyway. Seriously!!!

You want participants who are fully committed, eager to engage, and ready to invest in themselves. Yasssss.

So, the next time you sit down to price your retreat, don’t ask yourself, What’s the lowest I can charge so people will come?

Instead, ask, How can I create an experience so valuable that people are excited to invest in it?

That shift in mindset changes everything.

Your retreat has immense value. And so do you.💝
