So much so that I almost didn’t send you this email because I wanted to keep this place all to myself!
But I just couldn’t be that mean. 🙂
And so it is with this little gem of a place in the middle of literally nowhere in Umbria, Italy – Eremito Hotelito.
Meant to be a modern monastery or perhaps better said a place for digital detoxing – this 14 room hotel (for lack of a better word to actually call it) is the perfect place to have a spiritual or yoga retreat, or to simply spend a week in silence.
The rooms are SMALL – seriously, like monastery cells. Some are cells that can fit 2 people because the bed is larger, but the rest of the rooms are only for one – and they mean it!
The cuisine is vegetarian and prepared by the owner’s brother Sergio. A lot of fresh vegetables and fruits are served, all in season; bread and pasta are home-made as are jams and cakes. Three meals a day are included since it’s not like you can hop off to a nearby restaurant!
The gardens are lovely and they grow all the vegetables and herbs organically (but of course)! They do prefer that you take your meals in silence – although if you take the whole place you can make your own rules if that doesn’t suit you.
There isn’t much to do here but contemplate your life, take walks in the woods along the Chiani river or perhaps take a Gregorian chant work-shop, Icon painting, horseback riding, or everyone’s favorite – a fasting and colon detox.
Once you’ve transcended and merged with infinite consciousness, and if you’ve had enough of the 7,500-acre nature reserve surrounding the hotel – you can always venture off to Assisi to make sure you have totally released your sins (it’s a 2 hour ride). 🙂
