I want to share a some really rockin resorts with all of you- you should definitely have a look if you’re planning retreats.
The first time I went to one of these properties was back in 2001 when I was working for don Miguel Ruiz and we were planning a retreat to their Mexican resort: Maya Tulum. Obviously been around for quite some time now and have hosted probably thousands of retreats over the years between these three properties.
Maya Tulum is located in – Tulum (of course!) right on the white sands of the Mayan Riviera. It tends to host a “brown rice groovy” kind of crowd who are into yoga, vegetarian food (they do serve fresh seafood meals), good heath, rest and relaxation, and the art of simply chilling-out.
There’s plenty of room here – they have 49 cabanas and two yoga halls that are in pretty much constant use as they’re usually hosting several retreats simultaneously. Their spa services are great and many are spiritually focused. If you like the Mexican version of a sweat lodge then I highly recommend having a Temazcal! However, if your tribe gets offended by creepy-crawlies I would not book here as you cannot keep them out of the huts – mother nature always wins!
There’s plenty to do off the property – you can visit the sacred ruins of Tulum and Coba which are near by, visit and swim in some of the beautiful cenotes (a sink hole filled with crystal clear water), or simply visit the town for some touristy shopping.

Moving right along – Pura Vida in Costa Rica is the perfect place to go in the dead of summer when it’s stifling hot in most other places since they’re 5000ft or 1525m above sea level.
They’ve got a variety of accommodations (52 of them) at various price points which is great for those clients who want a really nice room and others who rather spend less and have an adventure (they have really cool “tentalow’s” which make a lovely glamping experience).
If you’re looking for things to do there’s no shortage in the highlands of Costa Rica! There are canopy adventures, waterfalls to visit, as well as volcanoes, white water rafting, hot springs, hiking and more! Trust me – your group won’t be bored!
Their menu features vegetarian dishes as well as fish, chicken and seafood. Pura Vida has a wine and juice bar and offers fresh wheat grass shots daily! The have 4 yoga halls that can host 16-80 people so no matter how large or small your group is there’s the perfect spot for you.

And last of all there’s the Dahlonega Spa Resort in in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, just over an hour and a half north of Atlanta – right near my home as a matter of fact! And if I say so myself – it is simply beautiful here!
Needless to say – it’s a whole different vibe here from the other two properties but it’s perfect for any kind of retreat, yoga retreat, corporate retreat or business retreat. They can handle up to 50 people yet it feels very small and intimate here. And like all their properties – they have a lovely spa too!
Busy season is when the leaves change because it is stunning here during this time, the air is fresh, and the sky perfectly clear! The hiking’s great and the local historic town is cute and fun to visit. We’ve got more waterfalls than you can shake a stick at, white water rafting, and the beginning of the Appalachian Trail is almost next door. We’ve also got vineyards here if you are so interested.
To your audacious life,
Sheri
